The Collister family from Liverpool



 
The earliest member of this branch of the family I have found was a Robert Collister married on 22 July 1792 at Saint Peter Church Street, Liverpool to Elizabeth Ruffley. I have only been able to find the records for one son.

Robert Collister was born on 25 December 1794 at Liverpool, Lancashire, and he was a tinman by trade. He married Alice Woods at St. Nicholas Church in Liverpool on the 26 January 1827.

Robert and Alice had 8 children.


Elizabeth Collister was born on 5 April 1821 at Denbigh, Wales.
Robert Collister born on 5 May 1823 at Denbigh, Wales, and trained as a blacksmith.

He married Sarah Wilson on 25 December 1847 at St. James Church in Liverpool.  Sarah was born on 5 December 1828 to William Wilson and Ann Hannah Ashton.

They migrated to Australia arriving in Melbourne on the "Marian Moore" on 15 February 1853 and lived at Richmond. 

Robert died on 12 November 1906 aged 84 years, and Sarah died on 21 February 1912 also aged 84 years.

They had 10 children.

 
  • Robert Collister born 10 November1848 in Liverpool and died at North Melbourne on 16 February 1925 aged 76 years. He married Wilhelmina Robertson Spence on 29 September 1877. She died at Sandringham on 14 April 1910 aged 54 years.

    Robert and Wilhelmina had 11 children.
    • Robert Henry Collister born 1878 and died on 30 March 1954 at Murrumbeena, aged 75 years. He married Nellie Bryden in 1903. Nellie was born about 1878 in New Zealand, and died at Oakleigh on 19 July 1967 aged 89 years.
    • David George Collister was born in 1880 at Richmond and died at Dandenong in 1943 aged 63 years. He married Ethel Margaret Brentwood in 1905. Ethel was born in Brighton in 1881 and died at Springvale in 1954 aged 73 years.
    • Albert Edward Collister was born in 1881.
    • Minnie Collister was born in 1883, and died on 22 July 1884 aged 13 months.
    • George Alexander Collister was born 1885.
    • Lily May Collister was born in 1887, and died on 14 March 1888 aged 15 months.
    • Sarah Elizabeth Collister was born on 5 October 1888 and died at Preston in 1975 aged 86 years.  In 1912 she married Henry James Plant who was born at Narrandara NSW in 1886.
    • Frank Collister was born in 1890 and died on 28 April 1963 aged 73 years. He married Caroline Mary Williams who was born in 1892 at Hawthorn, and died on 17 July 1940 at Cheltenham
    • Charles Arthur Collister was born in 1892 and died 4 September 1963 at Richmond. In 1911 he married Gerté Alice Brien who was born in 1893 at Carlton, and dies on 11 March 1954 at Cheltenham.
    • Ruby Ethel Collister was born on 10 January 1894 at Richmond, and married James O'Brien in 1913.
    • Ada Myrtle Collister was born on 30 August 1897 at Richmond, and in 1916 married Arthur Hamilton Evans who died in 1962 at Heidelberg aged 67 years.

  • William Collister born in 1850 at Liverpool and died in 1852
  • Mary Alice Collister was born in 1852 at Liverpool and died in 1855 at Richmond, Victoria.
  • Hannah Collister was born on 28 December 1854 at Richmond, and died on 11 May 1923 at Claremont, WA.
 



Caroline Collister

  • Caroline Collister(1857-1911) married David Good (1854-1925) married on 12 October 1881. The marriage was performed at the bride's home. David was a bootmaker, and when he married listed the occupation of his father as surveyor, which may have been so at the time of his father's death as the death certificate after the inquest was lacking relevant information.

    Caroline died in 1911, aged 54 years, and David died in 1925, aged 70 years. David and Caroline had five children, all born at Richmond.

    • David Henry Good (1882-1936) married Henrietta Violet Hodder (1886-1964) in 1909. Henrietta was a descendant of a Port Phillip pioneer family who arrived in 1842 on the "Earl of Durham".

George Alexander Good

    • George Alexander Good (1884-1917) married Nellie Amelia Croy (1887-1944) in 1909, a daughter of Peter Croy and Elizabeth Ann Nicholson from Allendale.
       
      • Jean Alexander Good was born on 24 September 1910 at Richmond and died on 23 June 1934 aged 23 years. On 16 October 1930 she married John Joseph Courtney who was born in 1904 and died in 1972.

      Nellie re-married after the death of George.

Bertha May Good

    • Bertha May Good, my mother, was born 1896 at 430 Church Street, and died 1979 at Oakleigh aged 83 years. She married Robert James Allen, a tailor, in 1922 at Burnley, and they built their home and lived at Oakleigh where I was born.

  • George Henry Collister born at Richmond on 10 April 1859, and died aged one year.

  • William Henry Collister was born on 6 September 1862 at Richmond and died 5 June 1944 at Cheltenham, aged 82 years. In 1890 he married Susan Bodinnar who was born about 1866, and died on 6 April 1942.
     
    • A son Henry Nathan Collister was born about 1894 and died on 7 May 1940 aged 46 years.

  • George Collister was born at Richmond on 21 December 1864, and died at Richmond in 1913 aged 51 years. In 1890 he married Catherine Butler who was born in Melbourne in 1863, and died in 1911 aged 45 years.

          They had four children:

    • George Francis Collister born in 1890 at Clifton Hill, and died on 8 May 1915 killed in action during WWI.

    • Arthur Stephen Collister was born in 1893 at Clifton Hill and died at East Melbourne in 1919, aged 26 years.

    • Bertha Collister was born on 21 December 1896 at Collingwood and died in 1979 at Northcote aged 83 years. In 1922 she married Frederick Coverdale Vallins who was born in 1894 and died at Heidelberg in 1978 aged 84 years.

    • Ellen "Nellie" Collister was born on 31 January 1900 at Clifton Hill and dies in 1957 at Mentone, aged 57 years. She married Frederick Charles Jackson in 1925.


  • Benjamin Collister born 1867 at Richmond, and died in 1868 aged one year.

  • Sarah Elizabeth Collister born 19 February 1869 at Richmond and died as an infant in 1870.

Margaret Swaine Collister born 21 December 1828 at Liverpool, Lancashire.


Alice Collister born 15 October 1832 at Liverpool, Lancashire, and died on 4 March 1834 and buried at St. Michaels Church, Liverpool.


Henry Wood Collister born 9 May 1834 at Liverpool, Lancashire, and died on 12 June 1893 in Melbourne, aged 59 years.  He was a coastal mariner.


George Stockton Collister born 16 May 1836 at Liverpool, Lancashire.
